Harlan is FULL of fun events all year round, but the summer is one of the BEST times to be in Harlan due to the many events we have. We have so many in fact that some slip through the cracks and you might not hear about them, but have no fear. We gave compiled a list of 10 Harlan County events taking place this summer that you may not have known about!
1. Summer Concert Series – Every week this summer there is a day you can head down to the gazebo and watch the summer concert series. There will be different bands and solo artists each show, so make sure you check it out!
2. 4th Fest – Most of you probably know about the fourth of July festival (Fun Filled 4th Fest), however you may not know about some of the events going on there. There are watermelon eating competitions, cornhole tournaments, a parade, and more!
3. Spray & Play – Each Thursday in July after the 4th you can head on down to the Harlan Center for Spray & Play. Kids can enjoy water inflatables, kiddie pools, popsicles, and drinks all for FREE!!!
4. Harlan Center Mountain Market – On Saturday, July 12th from 9 AM – 3 PM you can head to the Harlan Center to shop with a variety of Harlan County vendors to find handmade goods, unique treasures, and MORE!
5. Red, White, & Cruise – From 5 PM – 9 PM on July 5th you can enjoy Cumberlands Independence Day celebration whilst also enjoying the cruise-in.
6. Gears & Beers – Every 4th Thursday of the month you can check out Gears & Beers. Go cruise around and check out the amazing classic cars, hot rods, and more.
7. Dog Days of Kentucky – Harlan’s very own hotdog festival!! You can participate in hotdog eating contests, watch live music, enjoy costume contests, and more!!
8. Fair Day 2025 – Go down to Pine Mountain Settlement School on August 2nd and get ready for a historical day of food, fun, and community. There are many amazing vendors that will be there so you gotta check it out!
9. Post 10 Golf Scramble – On July 18th head to the Sleepy Hollow Golf Course to partner with Kentucky State Police to benefit Trooper Island! There are even prizes available for the top 3 finishers!
10. Slay the Dragon – The Backroads of Appalachia have partnered with The AMG to host a ride for Autism research. You will be riding around two hidden gems: over Kentucky’s Highest Mountain and The KNOB right across the border in Norton, VA and home to the High Knob Observation Tower In Jefferson National Forest! Don’t miss out!!!
