Everyone needs some self care every once in a while. Luckily, Harlan County is home to countless places where you can experience the serenity of nature, while also taking some time to yourself. Here are some of our favorite spots to catch up on some fresh air:

  • Kingdom Come State Park:
  • Between paddle boating, overlooks, countless hiking trails, and more, Kingdom Come State Park in Cumberland, Kentucky is the perfect place to experience the beautiful mountains of Harlan County.
  • Camp Blanton:
  • Whether you want to go on a hike or spend a day fishing, Camp Blanton is a great place to get some fresh air while in the quiet presence of nature. There are also overnight accomodations as well as full camp rentals if you would like to share this experience with your friends and family!
  • Blanton Forest:
  • Harlan County is home to Kentucky’s largest old-growth forest. Be among the same trees that Daniel Boone and other settlers passed through in the 18th century to enter Kentucky at Blanton Forest.
  • Martins Fork Lake:

  • Pine Mountain Settlement School:
  • A national historic landmark, Pine Mountain Settlement School was founded in 1913. Travel more than a century back in time and be among the living history of not just our county, but our country.
  • A Local Park:
  • Harlan County maintains over 30 public parks. The walking track at Huff Park is a great place to get some exercise while also enjoying a quiet atmosphere. If you have children, there are countless playgrounds to fuel their energy and imagination!
  • City of Harlan Dog Park:
  • If you want to catch some fresh air with your furry friend, the Harlan dog park is the perfect place for you! Get some alone time at our most ‘paw-some’ park with your pets!
  • Highsplint Lake:
  • If you want to spend a day near the water fishing, Highsplint Lake is the perfect place for you. With record-breaking catches, Highsplint Lake is among the best fishing spots in Kentucky.
