March 1, 2024 is National Unplug Day! It’s a 24 hour time period where people are encouraged to disconnect from their devices and enjoy unplugged fun for the day. We’ve come up with some ideas for unplugged fun in Harlan County…

-Read All About It- Visit Sassy Trash or Raven Rock Coffee, Cafe, & Curiosities and pick up a book by a local author. For extra fun, read the book and then take yourself on a self guided tour of sites mentioned in the books!

-Harlan County Rocks- The mountains of Harlan County feature some stunning natural architecture. Take time to explore some of our most famous rock formations. Cross a natural sandstone bridge at Log Rock or climb 290 feet in the air and stand atop Raven Rock at Kingdom Come State Park. Visit Pine Mountain Settlement School and take the hike to Split Rock. See Kentucky’s largest old growth forest from above on Knobby Rock in Blanton Forest.

-Unplugged Fore A Day- Hit the links at one of Harlan County’s three golf courses. Take your swings on 9 hole courses with mountain views at the Harlan Country Club or the Sleepy Hollow Golf Course. The Lynch Country Club offers 7 holes at the foot of Black Mountain. After a long winter inside, start your golf season off right!

-Drop a Line- Harlan County offers tremendous fishing from its tranquil lakes to the headwaters of the Cumberland River. Launch a boat at Martins Fork Lake or Cranks Creek Lake. Fish from the pier at Highsplint Lake. Stand along the banks of the Cumberland River or one of the three forks that form it. With Harlan County waters producing both the state record largemouth bass and the state record redeye bass, you may come home with more than just fishing tales.

-Dinner & Conversation- Imagine sitting around the table without the blue glow of screens. Meet up for a meal with your family at The Harlan County Beer Company or The Portal and entertain one another with stories, jokes, and life updates. Leave the phone at home!

No matter how you choose to spend your unplugged day, we know it will be filled with memories and fun!
